Frequently Asked Questions

Toward whom is ND Vision CYM geared?

ND Vision CYM is for campus and youth ministers. People serving in these roles may include, but are not limited to, high school campus ministers, diocesan directors or coordinators of youth ministry, parish youth ministers, and high school religion/theology teachers. Whether you're a volunteer or full time staff member, all those who minister to and with the young people of our Church will benefit from what ND Vision CYM has to share.

What does ND Vision CYM have to offer my existing ministry?

All young people can benefit from a ministry which helps them to explore God's call, to discover their own giftedness, and to respond in faith with their lives. By engaging you in a personally formative experience of the dynamic of God's call and the response of faith, ND Vision CYM enables you to develop and incorporate a strong sense of vocation into your current ministry to young people. Whether or not your comprehensive ministry to youth includes a particular program or curriculum, the message and resources that ND Vision CYM has to share will support both your ministry and you.

Do ND Vision and ND Vision CYM share any time together during the week?

ND Vision and ND Vision CYM are separate, though complementary, experiences. The majority of your time at ND Vision CYM will be spent with other CYM participants. The ND Vision and ND Vision CYM communities will gather together for two keynote presentations, in addition to prayer, worship, meals and entertainment at different points throughout the week. These points of intersection between ND Vision and ND Vision CYM will provide broader experiences of our faith community and will be both energizing and enriching for the participants of both programs.

I have attended ND Vision in the past. Should I come to ND Vision CYM?

Yes!! If you have previously attended ND Vision with youth from your high school or parish, first of all, thank you for your support! You are a part of the reason we thought it absolutely necessary to create a component of ND Vision specifically for campus and youth ministers. We would like to extend a special invitation for you to join us for a completely new experience at ND Vision CYM this summer. At ND Vision CYM, we will take a different approach to the same ideas and concepts of vocation that you have seen bring ND Vision to life.

Can I still just attend ND Vision?

Because ND Vision is an experience created specifically for high school students and we now have an initiative, ND Vision CYM, in place for adults, we will no longer be inviting adults to attend ND Vision’s general sessions or presentations, unless it is as part of the ND Vision CYM curriculum.

Do I need to attend ND Vision CYM during the same week as the young people from my high school or parish attend ND Vision?

No. It is not necessary for you and your young people to attend during the same session. The message and experience of ND Vision and ND Vision CYM remain consistent across each session of the summer, so you can build on your shared experience of Vision with your youth without actually having been at Notre Dame during the same week. Attending ND Vision CYM during a different week than the young people from your institution will not affect the discount that we are offering for each young person you send to ND Vision.

If I do attend during the same week as the youth from my high school or parish, what are my responsibilities to them while at Notre Dame?

ND Vision CYM is a chance for you to focus your energies on your own personal and ministerial formation, so you will have no responsibility for any young people during the week. Under the leadership of the ND Vision staff, students will be closely chaperoned by a team of 60 Notre Dame undergraduates who will serve as counselors, mentors, and facilitators for the high school students throughout the week. Staff provided by the Office of Residence Life will further supervise dorms. In addition, there will be a number of adults leading the large group sessions for ND Vision who will also serve as chaperones.

Are there any single rooms available?

The only housing that we are able to provide is double occupancy rooms in dormitories on Notre Dame’s campus. We will honor any request you make for a roommate and will assign roommates otherwise. Should you prefer to find your own accommodations, you are certainly most welcome to do so. If you do choose to stay somewhere else during CYM, we regret that we are unable to deduct the cost of housing from the overall participation fee, as it is included.

Will I have any free time? What is there to do on campus?

Yes, you will have ample free time to rest, relax, and recharge!  We invite you to explore Notre Dame’s beautiful campus: walk the lakes, visit the Grotto, take a tour of the stadium or the new Performing Arts Center. Reserve some time (and money!) to spend at the Bookstore and join us for dinner at Legends, the on-campus bar-restaurant. We want to make sure that you leave ND Vision CYM energized and renewed in mind, body, and spirit!

What are the departure and arrival times?

Check-in time is 12:00-5:00pm on Monday. Check-out time is noon on Friday.

How do I apply?

You can apply online or download an application and send it to us at:

ND Vision CYM

103 Hesburgh Library

Notre Dame, IN 46556

If you have other questions about applying, please contact us.

How much does it cost?

The cost of participation depends on whether you send young people to ND Vision. For every student you send to ND Vision, you will receive $20 off the ND Vision CYM fees. (Deposits may also be discounted.) So, a youth minister who sends 20 young people to ND Vision can attend ND Vision CYM for FREE!! Each student registration may be claimed only once for a total discount of $20.

Every application requires a $75 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit.  The 2008 Registration Fee (not including deposit) is $325 per person before applicable discounts.

All applications (with deposits) must be postmarked or submitted online by May 16, 2008.  All registration fees must be received by May 26, 2008.

How do I make a payment?

Please make your payment by cash or check made payable to NDVI. A $75 deposit is due with each application; the remaining registration fee is due by May 26, 2008. Mail payments to:

ND Vision CYM

103 Hesburgh Library

Notre Dame, IN 46556

Does the registration fee include transportation costs?

No. Participants are responsible for finding and funding their own transportation to and from Notre Dame. Unfortunately, we cannot provide any kind of transportation to or from campus. This is in accordance with the policy for all Notre Dame summer programs and sports camps. Participants arriving at the airport or train station should plan to bring cash for cab fare, around $12 each way.

What is ND Vision CYM's refund policy?

The $75 deposit that is due with each individual's application is non-refundable and non-transferrable.  The remainder of the registration fee may be refunded in full for cancellations received in writing by ND Vision no later than 10 days prior to the start of the participant's registered session.  For example, cancellations for the June 23-27 session must be received by ND Vision no later than June 13 for the participant to be eligible for a refund.  Participants who cancel with less than 10 days notice forfeit their entire fee.

What are the deadlines for submitting applications?

The deadline for application is the same for all sessions.  The final deadline for applications is May 16, 2008 (see ND Vision CYM homepage for adjusted deadlines). You will be supplied with additional information (such as directions, etc.) as we receive and review applications.  You are guaranteed your first choice session, unless otherwise notified.  No one will be placed in anything but his or her first choice session without first being asked.
